10 Trails Named After Influential Women from Rails-to-Trails Conservancy

Love this article from Rails-to-Trails Conservancy:

For Women’s History Month, we honor this visionary woman and others who have made extraordinary impacts in their own communities and for the nation. In some cases, their legacy lives on in the names of trails that are used and loved by communities. Here are just 10 to inspire you.

Here are the 10 trails highlighted in the article

  1. Terry Hershey Park Hike & Bike Trail in Texas
  2. Jane Addams Trail in Illinois
  3. Helen Boosalis Trail in Nebraska
  4. Phyllis Harmon Path also in Illinois
  5. Kim Williams Nature Trail in Montana
  6. Mary Carter Greenway in Colorado
  7. Vera Katz Eastbank Esplanade in Oregon
  8. Sacagawea Heritage Trail in Washington
  9. Lanie Fleischer Chester Creek Trail in Alaska
  10. Marcia H. Cloninger Rail-Trail in North Carolina

While we don’t have a trail named for a woman here in Miami, throughout our history women have been a tremendous force behind our parks and trails, from environmentalist and the “Mother of Miami” Julia Tuttle, to Marjory Stoneman Douglas’ advocacy on behalf of the Everglades to current day Meg Daly and her tireless work to bring us the Underline Linear Park.

Check out Laura Stark’s article on the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy website for details about the trails and the amazing women behind them. And for a list of trails here in Miami, Rails-to-Trails has that, too!

Happy Women’s History Month, Miami!
