Revolution: Saving the Humans!

Revolution is a film about changing the world, going for it, taking a stand, and fighting for something. A true-life adventure following Director, Rob Stewart over four years and 15 countries discovering there is a lot more than sharks at risk of becoming extinct. Climate change, environmental degradation, species loss, ocean acidification, pollution, and food/water scarcity are reducing the earth’s ability to house humans and we need to start doing something about it now!

Join ECOMB and Earth Ethics Institute at Miami Dade College for the final night of the Stand Up, Rise Up Film Festival, featuring Revolution. The event will include a reception at 5:30 pm, the film screening at 6:00 pm, and a panel discussion of distinguished speakers from 7:30 – 8:30 pm. The film is FREE and open to the public; RSVP is required.

Taking Root: the Vision of Wangari Maathai – February 15 at 5:30 – Cinema Green

On Wednesday, February 15, at 5:30 p.m., ECOMB’s Cinema Green Project, in partnership with Earth Ethics Institute at Miami Dade College, presents “Taking Root: the Vision of Wangari Maathai” from the Stand Up, Rise Up! film series. The film will screen at EcoTech Visions, 670 NW 112 Street, Miami, FL 33168. There will be a panel discussion following the film. All Stand Up, Rise Up! films are free, but tickets through Eventbrite are required.

Taking Root: the Vision of Wangari Maathai

Taking Root tells the dramatic story of Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai whose simple act of planting trees grew into a nationwide movement to safeguard the environment, protect human rights, and defend democracy—a movement for which this charismatic woman became an iconic inspiration.

Cowspiracy

On Wednesday, February 8, at 5:30 p.m., ECOMB’s Cinema Green Project, in partnership with Earth Ethics Institute at Miami Dade College, presents “Cowspiracy” from the Stand Up, Rise Up! film series. The film will screen at Miami Dade College’s Interamerican campus, 627 SW 27 Avenue, room 3103, Miami, FL 33135. After the film, there will be a panel discussion with Zoë Sigle, Director at South Florida Grassroots, and Jack Lieberman of 350.ORG. All Stand Up, Rise Up! films are free, but tickets through Eventbrite are required.

Cowspiracy

This film is uncovering the secrets of the agricultural business in the US. Animal agriculture is the leading cause of deforestation, habitat loss, ocean “dead zones” and many other negative impacts on the environment. The director aims to show the full impacts on what animal agriculture does to the environment, and how we can start changing the way we eat to save the environment.

South Florida Rising Seas: Impact

On Wednesday, February 1, at 5:30 p.m., ECOMB’s Cinema Green Project, in partnership with Earth Ethics Institute at Miami Dade College, presents “South Florida Rising Seas: Impact” from the Stand Up, Rise Up! film series. The film will screen at EcoTech Visions, 670 NW 112 Street, Miami, FL 33168. There will be a special presentation of “Global Warming – Changing Oceans” by Captain Dan Kipnis; and a panel discussion movie producer Juliet Pinto, climate monitor Mitchel Chester, and Captain Dan Kipnis. All Stand Up, Rise Up! films are free, but tickets through Eventbrite are required.

South Florida Rising Seas: Impact

The documentary is a compilation of stories that were produced by 33 video production students at Florida International University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication and initially released as a 10-part web series on WPBT2’s YouTube site.

 

The documentary’s first-person narratives take viewers through the Everglades, Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale beach and finally, the Keys, where community leaders describe themselves as “the canary in the coal mine” of sea level rise. Viewers will also hear concerns of engineers, civic leaders, real estate and sustainability professionals and environmental advocates.

Before the Flood

On Wednesday, January 25, at 5:30 p.m., ECOMB’s Cinema Green Project, in partnership with Earth Ethics Institute at Miami Dade College, presents “Before the Flood” from the Stand Up, Rise Up! film series. The film will screen at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus, 300 NE 2 Avenue, Room 7128, in downtown Miami, There will be a panel discussion following the film with Caroline Lewis, CLEO Institute, as Moderator; and panelists Greg Hamra, of the Citizens Climate Lobby, and Delaney Reynolds, from the Miami Sea Rise Project. Before the Flood

Actor and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio travels the world to examine first-hand the effects of climate change, and to learn more about possible ways to prevent catastrophic damage that could make the Earth unsustainable for human life. Stand Up! Rise Up! Film Series

One of the many programs and events organized by the Environment Coalition of Miami and the Beaches is also one of my favorites – Cinema Green Project. Their current film offering is six of the episodes from Stand Up, Rise Up! The series will be shown at various locations in Miami, starting January 25 and running through March 22.

Cinema Green tonight at Miami Beach Cinematheque

The Environmental Coalition of Miami & the Beaches and Cinematheque on Miami Beach invites you Cinema Green movie night tonight at 7 and 9 pm.  First, “follow the story of Jen and Grant as they accept the challenge of creating no waste for an entire year” in the “The Clean Bin Project.” Then enjoy “One Beach,” a look at the importance of keeping our Florida beaches “Barefoot Friendly.” There will be an introduction by Luiz Rodrigues, Michael Laas and Commissioner Jerry Libbin, plus a question and answer session with One Beach cast members Barbara de Vries and Leigh Emerson, and Ben Clutter from the Surfrider Foundation.
